Chicago White Sox DFA Former 1st-Round Pick Pitcher

The Chicago White Sox have designated right-hander Touki Toussaint for assignment.

Toussaint, once a highly touted first-round draft pick, has had a tough season, posting a 7.43 ERA over 23 innings. 

His performance has been marred by control issues, evidenced by a high 15.4% walk rate, and some bad luck with an unusually high .464 batting average on balls in play (BABIP). 

Despite showing flashes of the potential that once made him a top prospect, Toussaint's recent outings, including an 11-run stretch over his last 9.1 innings, ultimately led the White Sox to make the tough decision to part ways.

By designating Toussaint for assignment, the team has created space to recall right-hander Matt Foster from Triple-A Charlotte. 

Foster, who has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery, offers a more stable option for the bullpen. 

Although his velocity has dipped slightly post-surgery, Foster has shown promise in limited action this season with a 4.28 ERA and a 23.6% strikeout rate.

The White Sox are hopeful that his return will bring much-needed consistency to a bullpen that has struggled throughout the year.

If Toussaint clears waivers, he will have the option to elect free agency, potentially seeking a fresh start elsewhere.
