Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Has Bo Bichette played his last game as a Toronto Blue Jay? The team announced on Thursday that the beleaguered shortstop had suffered a fractured finger and has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Seeing as there are only 10 days left in the season, he is done for the year, and now we'll have to see what the offseason has in store.

The injury occurred when he took a ball off his middle finger while taking groundballs pregame.

It only seems fitting that Bichette's 2024 season ends on such a bizarre and low note, as that has been the running theme this year for both Bichette and the Blue Jays. The two-time All-Star shortstop had the worst season of his career by a long shot, playing just 81 games, and batting .225 with a .598 OPS, just four home runs, and a multitude of trade rumours.

Bichette is going into his final year of his contract, and is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season. Both sides have been saying the right things, so while a trade looked nearly inevitable this winter as recently as a week or so ago, it now seems like there's a fighting chance for the Jays to sign Bichette to an extension—should they so desire.

Ten days ago, Bichette made a stunning statement, saying he wanted to win a championship in Toronto with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has been his teammate going all the way back to when they began their journey in the Jays organization in the minors in 2016.
