Alex Cobb Heads Back to IL For 2nd Time Since Trade to Cleveland

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Alex Cobb, who took a perfect game into the 7th inning earlier this month, has now landed back on the injured list for the second time since his arrival in Cleveland at the trade deadline just over a month ago. And that's after missing the first four months of the season.

It's another niggling hand issue that's shelved Cobb. This time it's blisters on his pitching hand; the last time, on Aug. 16th, he went to the IL with a fractured fingernail on his throwing hand. Hey, at least it's not elbow trouble.

Cobb, 36, has been able to make three starts for the Guardians since coming over from the San Francisco Giants, and he's posted a 2.76 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP, while going 2-1.

He never pitched for the Giants this season, as he was recovering from hip surgery and then a shoulder problem and more blisters that delayed his return.

Cobb was being counted on to be a wily veteran in the rotation for Cleveland heading into the postseason, now he'll have to hope to return just in time for the playoffs.

The Guardians have a five-game lead in the loss column atop the AL Central.
