Yankees Ditch Trade Deadline Acquisition After Just 2 Weeks

The New York Yankees failed to bring in any impact pitching help at the trade deadline, but one reliever that they did bring in has already worn out his welcome just two weeks into his stay in the Bronx. Enyel De Los Santos has been DFA'd by the Yankees.

GM Brian Cashman acquired De Los Santos at the deadline from the San Diego Padres, after he'd compiled an impressive 48:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 40 innings with the Friars, following a couple of straight seasons with an ERA in the low 3.00s with the Cleveland Guardians.

But in just 6.1 innings in Pinstripes, the 28-year-old Dominican surrendered 13 hits and 10 earned runs for an ERA of 14.21 along with a WHIP of 2.52 and a lowly K/BB ratio of 5:3. Most of the damage was done in his last outing two days ago, in which he allowed eight hits and seven runs in just 1.2 innings. That was the last straw.

In six major league seasons, De Los Santos has a 4.52 ERA and 9.7 K/9.

Cashman's only impact trade deadline acquisition was Jazz Chisholm, who will now be lost to the team for an indefinite period. They had a chance to trade for ace starter Jack Flaherty, but pulled out of the deal, a mistake Cashman will likely live to regret.
