Texas Rangers DFA Former Dominant Reliever
The Texas Rangers have made the decision to designate left-hander Brock Burke for assignment, a move that shows the team's urgent need to address their pitching struggles during a pivotal stretch of the season.
Burke, who was a standout in the Rangers' bullpen in 2022 with an impressive 1.97 ERA, has experienced a sharp decline in performance this year, recording a 9.22 ERA over 13.2 innings.
His season was further derailed by a fractured hand in April, which sidelined him for two months, and upon his return, he struggled to regain his previous form, ultimately leading to his demotion to Triple-A Round Rock, where his struggles continued with a 5.31 ERA over 16 appearances.

Brock Burke is a left-handed, North-South pronator with a deceptive delivery.
He's a former SP/bulk guy who has worked mostly as a left-handed specialist at the MLB level.
He's in his last option year; his mix is FF/SL/CH/SI.

In response to Burke's struggles and the broader issues facing their pitching staff, the Rangers have made several corresponding roster moves.
They have selected the contract of right-hander Matt Festa from Triple-A Round Rock.
Festa, 31, brings major league experience with a 4.66 ERA over 90 appearances but has been more effective in Triple-A this season, posting a 2.70 ERA.
Additionally, the Rangers recalled left-hander Walter Pennington, who was acquired in the Michael Lorenzen trade, providing a needed left-handed option in the bullpen.
These changes come as the Rangers also placed right-hander Josh Sborz on the 15-day injured list due to shoulder fatigue, further depleting their bullpen depth.
Burke's future with the organization remains uncertain, depending on whether he clears waivers or is claimed by another team.
