Report: Bo Bichette "Has No Plans" To Stay With the Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays front office insists they want to contend in 2025, which some observers of the sport find laughable, and others simply scoff at. But it's quite possible that two-time All-Star Bo Bichette won't be part of next year's club, as he apparently has "no plans" to stay in Toronto when he becomes a free agent.

Baseball insider Bob Nightengale writes in USA Today, "The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to entertain trade offers this winter for shortstop Bo Bichette, who has no plans to stay in Toronto once he’s a free agent after the 2025 season.”

Blue Jays' Sportsnet Radio baseball man Jeff Blair also feels this is an inevitability, recently saying "I absolutely believe Bo needs a change of scenery. I think everything we’ve seen tells us that."

Bichette has had his worst year in the majors, reflecting the awful season had by the team in general. The shortstop has been out for a month with an injured calf muscle. He's just recently started to do some baseball activities down in Dunedin, and will likely ramp up down in Florida for a while before the team decides on a rehab assignment and whether he'll return this year.

He's hit just .223 with a .597 OPS this season, with just 4 HR and 30 RBIs in 79 games. The 26-year-old, depending on how his rehab goes, might even have played his last game for the Blue Jays, if these latest reports come to fruition.
