Reds Sign Pitcher & Option Him To Triple-A Where His Father Is The Manager

The Cincinnati Reds have signed right-hander Casey Kelly to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Louisville, where he will be managed by his father, Pat Kelly.

This historic father-son pairing marks the first time in Louisville Bats history that such a duo will be part of the team, adding a personal and emotional layer to Casey's return to stateside baseball after several years in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).

The 34-year-old pitcher, who had a successful run with the LG Twins, including a standout season with a 2.55 ERA and a Korean Series Championship in 2023, looks to rejuvenate his career under his father's guidance.

Casey's journey began as a first-round pick by the Boston Red Sox in 2008, with his MLB debut for the San Diego Padres in 2012 on his father's 57th birthday.

Despite early struggles in the majors and brief stints with the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, and San Francisco Giants, Casey found his stride overseas in the KBO, where he was a key player and earned All-Star honors in 2022.

His recent release from the LG Twins, following a dip in performance, opened the door for his return to the United States.

This assignment to Louisville brings a poignant reunion with his father, Pat Kelly, who recently celebrated his 2,000th managerial win in Minor League Baseball.

This milestone was honored with a special pre-game ceremony at Louisville Slugger Field, where Casey contributed a heartfelt video tribute.
