New York Yankees Place Third Baseman On Waivers

The New York Yankees have placed third baseman J.D. Davis on outright waivers after designating him for assignment earlier in the week to accommodate Jazz Chisholm Jr. on their roster.

Davis, 31, has struggled significantly this season, slashing .105/.227/.158 with just one RBI in 22 plate appearances.

Despite these recent struggles, Davis demonstrated his power last season with the San Francisco Giants, hitting 18 home runs. If unclaimed, he will become a free agent, making him eligible to sign with any team for the final stretch of the season.

Davis's season has been tumultuous, with stints at the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A's, and the Yankees. He won an arbitration case with the Giants for a $6.9 million salary in 2024 but was released to create cap space for Matt Chapman.

The Oakland A's picked him up, hoping he would be a valuable trade asset, but his performance fell short.

After being acquired by the Yankees in late June, Davis played in just seven games, posting a .631 OPS across his time in New York and Oakland.

Despite his recent struggles, Davis's career .268/.352/.443 line with 67 home runs and 209 RBIs over the past five years suggests he still has potential value for teams looking to bolster their rosters.
