Miami Marlins Place One Of Their Starters On Waivers

The Miami Marlins have designated infielder Emmanuel Rivera.

Acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this season for cash considerations, Rivera struggled offensively, posting a disappointing .214/.294/.269 slash line with just one home run and 15 RBIs across 96 games.

While his defense at third base was solid, his lack of production at the plate made him expendable, particularly as the Marlins look to strengthen their roster for the remainder of the season.

Rivera's departure created an opportunity for the Marlins to promote right-hander Adam Oller from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Oller, who signed a minor league deal with Miami in July, brings previous MLB experience from his time with the Oakland A's, where he posted a 7.09 ERA over two seasons.

Additionally, the Marlins optioned right-hander George Soriano to Triple-A and recalled infielder/outfielder Connor Norby, who was recently acquired from the Baltimore Orioles.

With Rivera now in DFA limbo, he will go through the waiver process, making him available to the other 29 MLB teams. If he clears waivers, Rivera has the right to reject a minor league assignment and elect free agency, given his three years of Major League service time.
