Mariners Make Surprising Announcement on Victor Robles

In a stunning turnaround to a career that the Washington Nationals had seemingly left for dead earlier this season, Victor Robles has completely reversed his fortunes with the Seattle Mariners and now has himself a new two-year contract extension.

It's a two-year deal with a $9.75M guarantee, and the Mariners will have a $9M club option for 2027.

Robles was the No. 4 overall prospect in the entire sport when he was called up for good in 2019. But things never panned out for him the way the Nationals had hoped. They DFA'd Robles at the end of May this season, as he was hitting just .120 in 14 games with a .401 OPS, and that once-great promise had reached a new low point.

But since signing on with the Mariners, Robles has hit .303 with a .372 on-base (11th in the majors among outfielders), an .821 OPS and an OPS+ of 140. In 42 games, 109 at-bats, he has three homers, seven doubles and 12 stolen bases in 12 attempts. He's also played well at all three outfield spots.
