Former Top Prospect Joins Third Different Team In 2024 After Waiver Claim

The Baltimore Orioles have claimed outfielder Forrest Wall off waivers from the Miami Marlins and designated right-hander Dillon Tate for assignment to clear space on their 40-man roster.

Wall, 28, brings speed and defensive versatility to the Orioles' system.

This season, the former top prospect has appeared in 16 games split between the Marlins and Atlanta Braves, batting .250 with four runs scored and four stolen bases. The Orioles have assigned Wall to their Triple-A Norfolk affiliate, where he is expected to provide depth as the team prepares for the final stretch of the season.

Dillon Tate, 30, finds himself designated for assignment after a somewhat inconsistent season with the Orioles.

This year, Tate has posted a 4.59 ERA and one save across 29 relief appearances, but he has not pitched for the big league club since July 10.

Over his five seasons with Baltimore, Tate has been a reliable presence in the bullpen, compiling a 7-14 record and a 4.07 ERA across 186 career relief appearances.

However, injuries, including a flexor strain that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season, have impacted his recent performance, leading to diminished velocity and effectiveness on the mound.
