Breaking: White Sox Make Big Change in Midst of Dreadful Season

In the midst of one of the worst seasons in major league history (with a chance to be THE worst), the Chicago White Sox have decided that enough is enough, and have tied the can to manager Pedro Grifol, making him the first managerial casualty of 2024.

It's a bit bizarre why the Pale Hose decided to do this now, not only because they just finally snapped their 21-game losing streak, but there are less than two months to play in the season. A new voice can only do so much with the meagre talent on hand, and it's not like the team is trying to turn things around and make a playoff push.

The White Sox are sitting at 28-89, on a 38-win pace, which would tie for the second-worst number of wins in modern MLB history (since 1901). And it would eclipse the woeful 1962 NY Mets for most L's in history; they lost 120 games and won 40. The ChiSox are on pace for 124 losses.

Grifol has an 89-190 mark at the helm of the White Sox over the past two years, for a .319 winning percentage. And how's this for a bizarre stat on how bad his record has been?

Only two managers in baseball history with a minumum 200 games managed for the same team have had a winning pct. under .333. And Grifol joins only somebody named Dr. James Prothro, who was thrust into the role for the Philadelphia Phillies during WWII. Prothro was a dentist by trade.

Certainly, it's felt like pulling teeth to be subjected to a White Sox game this year.
