The Orioles have faced a thinning infield due to a series of injuries and recent trades. Jordan Westburg's hand injury, along with the departures of Austin Hays, Connor Norby, and Kyle Stowers, has left the team seeking reinforcements.
Rivera’s arrival provides a potential solution at third base, allowing Ramón Urías, who has seen a decline in his defensive performance this season, to shift back to a more versatile utility role.
To make room for Rivera on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated utilityman Terrin Vavra for assignment. Vavra, once a promising prospect, has struggled with injuries and performance inconsistencies in recent years.

Rivera’s presence on the roster offers the Orioles a valuable defensive boost as they navigate the remainder of the season.
If Rivera remains with the team through the end of the year, he is on track to qualify for arbitration this winter, giving the Orioles an option to retain him for 2025 and beyond.
With the team potentially optioning Liván Soto to make room on the active roster, Rivera will have the opportunity to prove his worth and possibly secure a more permanent role in Baltimore's infield plans.
