44-Year-Old Rich Hill Holds Showcase, 4 Teams Linked

It's a pretty good gig if you can get it. Trying to secure a major league contract to pitch at the age of 44, but you only have to work for just over six weeks.

44-year-old Rich Hill is once again trying to land a big league job, and he held a showcase this weekend for MLB teams.

Of course, Hill is putting in plenty of work in order to get ready to potentially pitch for a contender later this month and next.

Two teams verified to have been in attendance are the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox, while the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers had both been interested in Hill in recent weeks, so it's assumed they still have the ageless arm on their radar.

In the case of the Twins, they are reportedly now in contact with Hill, according to Minnesota beat writer Dan Hayes. They were hoping to add a starter at the trade deadline, but weren't able to.

The Dodgers added ace Jack Flaherty at the deadline, so it's possible their interest in Hill has waned, but the Yankees weren't able to land a piece for their rotation (and they even pulled out of an apparent deal with the Tigers for Flaherty), so they would likely still be interested.

Hill last pitched in 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres, but was only able to muster up a 5.41 ERA. The Red Sox, however, are familiar with what he can do, as he started 26 games for them in 2022 and put up a 4.27 ERA.

Overall, in a 19-year career, Hill has a 4.01 ERA in over 1,400 innings pitched, with a 1.25 WHIP and 9.1 K/9.
