White Sox GM Lashes Out At Garrett Crochet For Leaked Demands

Will the Chicago White Sox be trading in-demand starting pitcher Garrett Crochet before today's 6:00pm ET deadline? It appears so, although not before general manager Chris Getz lashed out at his pitcher and his agent for their recently leaked demands about an extension.

Getz, in speaking with ESPN's Jesse Rogers, referred to the Crochet camp's "tactics" of putting it out there that he'll be demanding an extension from any team before he agrees to pitch in the postseason as hurting the player's value.
I was a little surprised and taken aback by how they went about it, considering I had a conversation with his agent the night before. That's not exactly the tactic I would have taken, being a former player, just because the dialogue has been so honest and real and careful and mindful of his career. I was a little surprised by it. I was.

Crochet, who had Tommy John surgery in 2022, has already thrown 114.2 innings this season, more than twice as much as his entire pro career combined, and of course there are concerns that arm troubles could emerge after such a massive bump-up in innings.

Despite the team having control with two more years of arbitration, Crochet, understandably, wants to ensure his future with an extension, should he push it even further by pitching into the playoffs. But Getz, of course, was not happy that he put those demands out there in media.

We understand why a stance would be taken like that. How you go about expressing that, was a bit hurtful, quite honestly, considering we could have handled it a little bit differently and still accomplish what everyone wanted to accomplish.

Meanwhile, reports early Tuesday morning indicate that the White Sox do expect to trade Crochet by the time the deadline hits.
