Washington Nationals & Kansas City Royals Complete Trade
The Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals have completed a significant trade aimed at strengthening Kansas City's bullpen.
The Royals have acquired right-handed reliever Hunter Harvey from the Nationals in exchange for third baseman Cayden Wallace (Royals' No. 2 Prospect) and the Royals' Competitive Balance Round A pick (39th overall) in the 2024 draft.
As a reminder: Hunter Harvey was a waiver claim. Nats pitching people evaluated him well and helped fix him.

Now they flipped him for a club’s No. 2 prospect and a top-40 draft pick. That’s how you rebuild.
To make room for Harvey on their roster, the Royals have designated right-hander Nick Anderson for assignment.
Hunter Harvey, 29, brings a powerful 97.8 mph fastball and valuable late-inning experience to Kansas City's bullpen, which has struggled this season with a 4.30 ERA, ranking 22nd in MLB.
Harvey has posted a 4.20 ERA in 45 innings this year, along with a 26.3% strikeout rate and a 6.3% walk rate.

With 26 holds, tied for the Major League lead, Harvey is expected to provide immediate high-leverage capability as the Royals, currently 52-44 and one game behind Boston for the third AL wild card spot, aim for a postseason push.
For the Nationals, this trade aligns with their rebuilding strategy. Cayden Wallace, 22, is a promising prospect with strong defensive skills and potential at the plate, currently hitting .282/.350/.427 at Double-A despite being on the injured list with an oblique strain.
Additionally, the Competitive Balance Round A pick, with a slot value of $2,395,000, significantly boosts Washington's draft-bonus pool, enhancing their ability to build a competitive roster for the future.
Over his six-year career, the 29-year-old Harvey holds a 3.20 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, with 185 strikeouts across 168.2 innings and 164 appearances.
