TRADE: Jorge Soler Heads To World Series Contender In Surprising Move

The Atlanta Braves have reacquired outfielder Jorge Soler and right-handed reliever Luke Jackson from the San Francisco Giants, marking a reunion with two pivotal players from their 2021 World Series-winning team.

In exchange, the Braves sent left-handed reliever Tyler Matzek and minor league third baseman Sabin Ceballos to the Giants.

This trade, largely a financial move for San Francisco, offloads Soler’s remaining salary while bringing back two familiar faces to Atlanta’s roster.

Soler, who signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Giants last winter, returns to a Braves team currently holding the top NL wild card spot despite injuries to key players like Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider.

Known for his immense power, Soler has continued to impress with a .240/.330/.419 slash line and 12 home runs this season, including the longest home run of the year at 478 feet.

His memorable performance in the 2021 World Series, where he earned MVP honors, remains fresh in fans’ minds. Soler is expected to fill an everyday role in the outfield, providing a much-needed boost to Atlanta’s offense.

Luke Jackson, another key figure from the Braves’ 2021 championship bullpen, brings additional depth to an already formidable relief corps that boasts the lowest ERA in the NL.

While Jackson has had an up-and-down season with a 5.40 ERA, his recent strong performances indicate a return to form.
