TRADE: Cleveland Guardians Acquire All-Star Starting Pitcher

The Cleveland Guardians have added an arm for their starting rotation down the stretch, though he hasn’t pitched yet this season. Alex Cobb is heading from the San Francisco Giants to the AL Central leaders.

Cobb underwent hip surgery this past off-season, and has been rehabbing to this point, though he is expected to return within about a week. In 2023, Cobb was an All-Star with the Giants, posting a 3.87 ERA with a 131:37 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

He was originally hoping to return to the majors as early as May, but he suffered shoulder irritation, and then a blister, which continually pushed back his return.

The 36-year-old has a career 3.85 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He will bring a nice veteran presence to the Guardians rotation, who desperately need some help behind Tanner Bibee and Ben Lively.

The Giants will receive left-handed pitcher Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later in return for Cobb.
