TRADE: Cincinnati Reds Land Former All-Star First Baseman

The Cincinnati Reds have waded into the trade deadline by nabbing a 2022 All-Star first baseman, in a deal with the Seattle Mariners for Ty France.

France was DFA'd this past week by the Mariners after a disappointing first half, but now the 30-year-old goes along with cash considerations to the Reds in exchange for 21-year-old minor league catcher Andruw Salcedo.

France has seen his OPS+ drop since the 125 mark in his '22 All-Star year, to 100 last year and just 94 this season. Since June 1st, he was hitting just .159 with one homer and a .534 OPS.

This should be a good move for France in a bid to resurrect his career, as the Reds have a big void at first base, and he should get a good chance to prove himself in a pretty decent lineup, and in a very good hitter's ballpark in Cincinnati.

The Reds lost their starting 1B for the season a couple of months back in Christian Encarnacion-Strand. Spencer Steer, who also plays first, has been forced into playing more in the outfield due to team need. Jeimer Candelario has spent much of the year at third base but has covered at 1B recently. He could now move to more of a DH role with France joining the lineup.
