Top 3 Landing Spots for Randy Arozarena
The Tampa Bay Rays are ready to listen. And apparently, ready to deal. The sexiest name they'll be dangling at the trade deadline over the next week and a half is playoff hero Randy Arozarena.
The 2023 All-Star has been a pretty consistent power/speed threat in his career, and he particularly excels in the postseason. That's why contenders will be hot to trot to reel him in. So far this season, he's only batting .202, but does have 12 homers and 14 stolen bases. In addition, he's picked it up in the last while, batting .255 over his last 30 games, with a .795 OPS.
MLB Network's Jon Morosi says the Rays "will listen" to calls for the outfielder, and lists the Seattle Mariners as one of the top landing spots.
Seattle Mariners
As pointed out by Morosi, the Mariners and Rays "are frequent trading partners and talks could advance in the days ahead."
Seattle has been looking for an offensive boost all season. Their left fielders have only the 23rd-best OPS in the majors this season, and Arozarena could be rejuvenated by being dropped into a lineup that's in the playoff hunt, though they've seen their lead atop the AL West dwindle to next to nothing, tied in the loss column with the Houston Astros coming out of the All-Star Break. They could really use a jolt like the one that Arozarena could provide.
Los Angeles Dodgers
"The Dodgers would have interest in adding one more bat," says Morosi, and their outfield, in particular, has been problematic this season, with left-fielders sitting 25th in OPS, and 23rd in average at just .216. Landing in that star-studded lineup would do wonders to bring Arozarena out of his doldrums this season.
Philadelphia Phillies
Another contender on which Arozarena would be a great fit, as si.com has called him "the perfect Phillies outfield target," even if only as a platoon option.
GM Dave Dombrowski is never afraid to go out and make things happen, so we should definitely keep an eye on the Phils here.
