Phillies Get Their Man Luis Robert Jr. In Proposed Blockbuster Trade

The rumors have been around for a couple of months—the Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. in a swap.
Whether or not the Pale Hose will actually trade him is still up for debate, but if they do, the Phils will be a leading suitor.

The 2023 All-Star has had another injury-plagued campaign (his 4th in five major league seasons), but showed last year when healthy the talent he can bring to the ballpark with power and speed, hitting 38 bombs and stealing 20 bases, all with Gold Glove caliber defense in center field.

He'd be a perfect fit in Philly, and with that, Joel Rueter of Bleacher Report has proposed this massive deal that would get Robert to the City of Brotherly Love, and a busload of top prospects to the South Side of Chicago.

Philadelphia Phillies Receive

  • OF Luis Robert Jr.
  • RHP John Brebbia
Chicago White Sox Receive

  • SS Starlyn Caba (No. 4 Phillies prospect)
  • RHP Mick Abel (No. 5)
  • C Eduardo Tait (No. 8)
  • LHP Samuel Aldegheri (No. 23)

Robert Jr. fills a need in center that the Phillies have had seemingly endlessly, while the White Sox completely restock the cupboard.

Caba, a shortstop from the Dominican, was one of the best players in the 2023 international signing class. He has eye-popping athleticism on both sides of the ball. An extraordinary hit tool plus excellent defensive skills.

Abel is a 6'5" right-hander who has the stuff to be a frontline starter, with 11.1 K/9 through the minors coming into this season, though he is struggling in his first real taste of Triple-A.

Tait is an elite prospect behind the plate, but is still just 17.

The White Sox need to start at the bottom (where they are now) and completely rebuild. This would be a good start.
