MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox "Interested" In Coveted Trade Target

The Boston Red Sox, despite a challenging start to the second half of the season, remain in contention for an American League Wild Card spot. 

With the trade deadline approaching on July 30, the team is looking to strengthen its lineup, particularly by adding a right-handed bat. 

One player who has emerged as a key target for the Red Sox is Los Angeles Angels utility man Luis Rengifo, as reported by Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam of MassLive.com. 

Luis Rengifo has really grown on me as a potential trade-target for the Red Sox.

Known for his versatility, Rengifo has played all three outfield positions and the infield spots to the left of first base, making him an attractive option for Boston.

Rengifo has had an impressive season, slashing .315/.358/.442 with six home runs, 25 RBIs, 12 doubles, and 22 stolen bases before being sidelined with a wrist injury. 

His performance had him in contention for the American League batting crown, highlighting his potential impact on Boston's lineup.

Despite his current stint on the Injured List, the Red Sox see Rengifo as a valuable addition who can provide depth and flexibility as they push for a postseason berth. His defensive versatility and solid offensive performance over the past three years, with a .275/.325/.437 line since 2022, add to his appeal.

The Angels, despite their struggles this season, have shown a preference to retain Rengifo, who is under team control through 2025. 

This stance, however, might be flexible depending on their future plans and the right offer. For the Red Sox, acquiring Rengifo could provide the much-needed boost to their lineup, especially given their left-handed tilt and Rengifo's success against right-handed pitching.
