MLB Trade Rumors: Mets "Interested" In White Sox' Ace

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the New York Mets are actively exploring the market for a starting pitcher following the season-ending left calf strain suffered by Kodai Senga. 

The Mets had hoped for Senga's return to stabilize their rotation, but his injury has accelerated their need for pitching reinforcements. 

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has reported that the Mets have identified Chicago White Sox veteran Erick Fedde as a prime target. 

Fedde, who has been stellar in his return to MLB in 2024 with a 7-3 record and a 2.98 ERA over 117.2 innings, is under contract for the 2025 season at $7.5 million, making him a valuable mid-rotation option for the Mets as they aim to solidify their playoff position.

The urgency to add a starter has grown for the Mets as their pitching staff currently ranks 21st in MLB with a 4.15 ERA, struggling despite holding the final NL Wild Card spot with a 55-49 record. 

Fedde's consistent performance, including a strong strikeout-to-walk ratio and ability to handle high-pressure situations, makes him an attractive target. 

The Mets' interest in Fedde is also fueled by their previous pursuit of him in free agency, indicating a long-standing optimism about his potential contributions.

In addition to Fedde, the Mets are considering other options like Chicago Cubs' starter Jameson Taillon, but Fedde remains a prominent name in their discussions. 

The Mets have already bolstered their lineup by acquiring outfielder Jesse Winker from the Washington Nationals, positioning themselves as buyers at the deadline.
