MLB Trade Rumors: Isaac Paredes Lands With Yankees In Proposed 7-Player Swap

The New York Yankees are struggling. That's an understatement. Their offense, outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, is a mess. They are fully expected to make some kind of moves to bring in some bats before next week's trade deadline, and one name that's hot on the rumor mill is the Tampa Bay Rays' Isaac Paredes.

The infielder would make a ton of sense for the Bronx Bombers, as the team's offense out of every infield spot — 1B, 2B, SS and 3B — ranks in the bottom half of the league, or near the very bottom, across the board.

Paredes brings a ton of power to the mix, as the All-Star has launched 16 homers this season with 51 RBIs, following a 31 HR, 98 RBI showing in 2023. His OPS+ over the past season and a half has been a rousing 130.

So what would it take to bring Paredes to the Bronx? He's under team control through 2027, so it'll be costly.

Former MLB GM and now analyst on MLB Network Radio, came up with this proposed trade in his latest entry for The Athletic, a deal which also brings another key piece to New York:

NY Yankees Receive:

  • Isaac Paredes, 1B/2B/3B
  • Pete Fairbanks, RP

Tampa Bay Rays Receive:
  • Roderick Arias, SS (NYY #4 Prospect)
  • Everson Pereira, OF (NYY #5 Prospect)
  • Jorbit Vivas, 2B (#15 prospect)
  • Zach Messinger, RHP (#21)
  • Oswaldo Cabrera, 3B

The Rays get themselves a boatload of prospects to rebuild with, in the infield, outfield and even on the mound, nabbing two of the Yankees' top 5 prospects (per MLB Pipeline).

The Yanks get a power-packed infielder that they could use at any of their struggling infield spots, and they'd have him for three more seasons as well.

In addition, Fairbanks could help Clay Holmes with closing duties, providing a major boost to the bullpen, also a position of need (and also with more team control, for two more years).

Who says no?
