Mets Sign Free Agent Catcher After Impressive Minor League Numbers
The New York Mets have signed minor league catcher Logan Porter to a Major League deal after he triggered the opt-out clause in his contract with the San Francisco Giants, according to Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston.
Porter, who appeared in 11 games with the Kansas City Royals last year, will be optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, providing the Mets with depth at the catching position.

He’s hitting .293/.390/.500 in Triple-A this year.
The 29-year-old played in 11 games last season with the Royals.
Mets have two catchers on IL for Syracuse right now.
This move comes as Porter has been performing exceptionally well at the Triple-A level this season, slashing .293/.390/.500 with eight home runs in 53 games.
Porter's impressive minor league performance likely influenced the Mets' decision to add him to their 40-man roster. Having spent most of his career with the Royals, where he was an undrafted free agent signed in 2018, Porter has shown consistent hitting capabilities with a .277/.401/.466 line over 1,766 plate appearances in the minors.

Porter has a great story - a walk-on at Dixie State who went undrafted, & signed as an affiliate bullpen catcher. He made the big leagues last season. pic.twitter.com/OlzJOVQgq5
While he may not immediately join the active roster, his presence in Triple-A Syracuse ensures the Mets are well-prepared for any potential injuries or roster changes, offering additional flexibility and depth behind current catchers Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens.
