Is Cy Young Candidate Tarik Skubal A Trade Candidate? Insider Names 2 Potential Landing Spots

All-Star Tarik Skubal has been lights-out this season for the Detroit Tigers, sitting at 10-3 with a 2.37 ERA and major league-best 0.90 WHIP, along with a spectacular 132:20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 110 innings.

But the Detroit Tigers, once again, have little to no chance of making the postseason, and there's been plenty of chatter about whether they should trade the left-handed ace for a bucketload of top prospects and young players.

He still has two more years of team control after this one, and is earning just $2.65 million.

Baseball Insider Jon Morosi says he sees one potential destination that makes the most sense if the Tigers bite the bullet and trade Skubal.

While Morosi still doubts that Detroit will trade their top asset, he does see the Baltimore Orioles as a team that could put together an offer that the Tigers would find difficult to refuse.

The one team that we could imaging having a compelling conversation with the Tigers about Skubal, would be the Baltimore Orioles because of the amount of high-level position player talent they have in the minor leagues, and certainly among their young major leaguers as well.

But you do have to wonder as you get towards July 30, given the amount of teams who have a clear need for starting pitching. The Dodgers, I would say, are one more example.  And remember, the Dodgers and Tigers nearly got together one year ago for a trade of Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Tigers have other attractive pieces on the trade market, starting with rotation-mate Jack Flaherty, but their biggest decision would be what to do with Skubal.
