Insider: "Wouldn't Be Shocked" If Bichette Traded; Top 2 Destinations Named

The Toronto Blue Jays have some huge decisions to make as we head down the stretch towards the trade deadline on July 30th. One of them, however, shouldn't be whether or not to sell — they will definitely be dealing off several players.

Will Bo Bichette be one of them? According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, speaking on Sportsnet 590 radio Wednesday morning, he leaves no doubt:

From what I've heard, my sense of the situation, that's where I think this could go. And honestly, it wouldn't shock me if Bo is traded in the next couple of weeks.

Bichette, however, the former All-Star, is having a horrific season, at .222, batting 70 points below his career average, with an OPS (.596) well over 200 points below his career mark, with just four home runs. But make no mistake, rival teams are aware of what Bichette is capable of, and perhaps a fresh start in a new environment can rejuvenate his bat.

With that, Morosi pegs two top teams that are the best fits, and most likely landing spots:

Los Angeles Dodgers

Shortstop (and even second base, which Bichette could theoretically play) is where they can use the biggest upgrades. They also have a treasure trove of prospects that they can offer.

With Bichette, however, "you're selling him low if you move him right now," says Morosi. He adds that he could barely be expected to get the Jays a Top 100-level prospect back at this point. Which is why he suggests that if the Jays add left-handed starter Yusei Kikuchi, a free agent at season's end, we might really have the makings of a blockbuster deal.

Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians are 27th in baseball in OPS from their shortstops at .593. Yes, that's about the same as what Bichette has produced thus far this season, but he did enter 2024 with a career mark well over .800 and had an OPS+ in the high 120s. Cleveland's shortstops are also 27th in batting average, at .205. Bichette has hit over .300 three times in his five previous MLB seasons, and in the .290s the other two years.

Like LA, the Guardians are a team with some prospect wealth that the Jays could look to snag.
