Chicago White Sox Sign Former Top Prospect

The Chicago White Sox have made an addition to their roster by signing free-agent infielder/outfielder Nick Senzel to a major league contract.

This move, first reported by Jon Heyman and confirmed by Sox Machine, will necessitate corresponding adjustments to both the 26-man and 40-man rosters, although the team has not yet officially announced the deal.

Senzel, 29, joins the White Sox after a stint with the Washington Nationals where he hit .209/.303/.359 in 64 games this season.

Senzel, originally drafted as a third baseman, has showcased his versatility by playing second base and all three outfield positions over his injury-marred big league career.

With Yoán Moncada sidelined since the season's second week and other infield options like Nicky Lopez, Paul DeJong, and Lenyn Sosa underperforming, Senzel has an opportunity to make an impact.

The signing comes as the White Sox look to bolster their position player group, which has struggled with production from its third basemen, hitting just .206/.246/.315 with six home runs this season.

Despite Moncada's imminent return, Senzel’s ability to play multiple positions could earn him significant playing time.

Over his six-year MLB career, the 29-year-old Senzel holds a .235/.302/.368 triple-slash line, with 40 home runs, 143 RBIs, 33 stolen bases, and 200 runs scored across 441 games played.

The White Sox remain expected sellers as the MLB trade deadline approaches, with GM Chris Getz likely to demand substantial returns for valuable assets, ensuring the team "wins the trade" and sets the stage for future success.
