Chicago Cubs Sign 7-Year Veteran Outfielder

The Chicago Cubs have reinforced their organizational depth by signing Trayce Thompson to a minor league deal, marking his return to the team for a second stint.

Thompson, 33, rejoins the Cubs after a recent tenure with the New York Mets' Triple-A squad, where he showcased his power despite facing some challenges at the plate.

Known for his versatility across all outfield positions and occasional bursts of power hitting, Thompson brings valuable experience and depth to the Cubs' farm system.

His return to Chicago follows a prior stint in 2021, during which he appeared in 15 games for the Cubs at the major league level, batting .250 with four home runs and nine RBIs.

Thompson's baseball journey spans multiple MLB organizations, including notable periods with the Chicago White Sox, where he began his career and made a significant impact in his major league debut season in 2015.

His recent performance in Triple-A, including 16 home runs and 44 RBIs with the Mets' affiliate this season, shows his potential to contribute both offensively and defensively for the Cubs' Triple-A team in Iowa.

Thompson's signing addresses the Cubs' need for depth amid injuries to prospects like Brennen Davis and Owen Caissie, positioning him to play a big role in Iowa.

While the Cubs currently boast a strong outfield lineup at the major league level, Thompson's familiarity with the organization and his proven ability to provide a power surge make him a nice addition for future contingencies.
