BREAKING: Mariners Acquire Randy Arozarena From Rays
The Seattle Mariners have made a major move to enhance their struggling offense by acquiring All-Star outfielder Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays.
In exchange, the Mariners have sent prospects Aidan Smith (No. 12) and Brody Hopkins (No. 22), along with a player to be named later, to Tampa Bay.
With an opening on their 40-man roster following the designation of Ty France for assignment, the Mariners did not need to make additional roster moves to accommodate Arozarena.

Arozarena, known for his standout postseason performance in 2020 and his selection as the 2021 Rookie of the Year, brings a dynamic presence to Seattle.
Despite a slow start this season, hitting .158 through May, he has rebounded impressively with a .290/.402/.517 slash line since June 1.
Overall, Arozarena has hit 15 home runs this season and maintains an OPS+ of 106. His career includes 86 home runs and a .442 slugging percentage over six seasons with the Rays.

The Mariners, currently 53-51 and one game behind the Astros in the AL West, have struggled offensively, ranking last in MLB in batting average (.216) and near the bottom in OPS (.660).
Arozarena's acquisition aims to address these woes and reinvigorate a lineup that features 2022 Rookie of the Year Julio Rodriguez.
With Arozarena under team control through the 2026 season, the Mariners hope his presence will not only aid their current playoff push but also provide a valuable asset for the next few years.
