Blue Jays Rumors: Bo Bichette Wants OUT of Toronto

Last month, when Bo Bichette commented that he "wouldn't be surprised" if he was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays by the July 30th deadline, it raised some eyebrows. Now, things have been ratcheted up to another level, as rumor has it that he would indeed "welcome a trade" out of Toronto.

According to insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has told friends that he would welcome a trade.

Who these people are is unknown, but perhaps Bichette should be a bit more careful about choosing his "friends."

The fact is, with the Blue Jays suffering through a disastrous season, nine games under .500 and obvious sellers at the deadline in just over a week's time, Bichette is likely the biggest name they have to deal, despite his own dreadful season.

The two-time All-Star shortstop is putting up the worst numbers of his career, with just four home runs, a .223 average, a shocking OPS of just .597, and an OPS+ of 70. His career marks going into this season? Well over .290 average, well over .800 OPS and well over 120 OPS+. He’s now on the IL with a calf strain, but for a team that wants to take a chance, that shouldn’t scare them off.

The Jays have flip-flopped about their deadline plans for a while, but recent developments indicate that they could be ready to sell all, save for Vladimir Guerrero. Certainly, they'd be selling low on Bichette, but a prospect-rich team like the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are in desperate need of a star in the middle infield, could make the Jays an offer they can't refuse.
