MLB Trade Rumors: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Open To Trade To Yankees

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Toronto Blue Jays' star first baseman, has softened his stance on a potential move to the New York Yankees, a team he once vehemently opposed.

In 2022, Guerrero firmly declared he would "never" sign with the Yankees, even saying, "Not even dead."

However, recent comments indicate a shift in his perspective.

In an interview with Virus Deportivo, Guerrero acknowledged the business realities of baseball, stating, "Sometimes one says things. It is not that I am trying to take back what I said about the Yankees. But this is a business. I sat down and spoke with my dad and my family, and this is a business. If a team picks me or if they do something, it's because they need it, obviously, and I'll be happy to help any team."

Guerrero's change of heart comes as the Blue Jays struggle with a disappointing season, sitting 6.5 games out of a wild-card spot amid a seven-game losing streak.

Despite his previous resistance, Guerrero now emphasizes his professionalism and readiness to contribute wherever needed. He remarked, "I'm a player, and if a team picks me or if they do something, it's because they need it, obviously, and I'll be happy to help any team."

This pragmatic approach reflects his discussions with his Hall-of-Fame father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., who advised against making definitive statements about future opportunities.

Currently batting .288/.368/.435 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs, Guerrero remains a valuable asset, making him an attractive trade option for the Yankees, who are dealing with injuries to key players like Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton.

While Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins has expressed reluctance to trade Guerrero, the star's softened stance on joining the Yankees opens the door to intriguing trade possibilities as the deadline approaches.
