MLB Rumors: 4 World Series Contenders In Pursuit of Marlins Closer Tanner Scott

The trade deadline may still be six weeks away, but that doesn't mean that the Miami Marlins will wait until then to make their next deal. It was several weeks back already that they traded batting champion Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres.

According to Will Sammon and Katie Woo in The Athletic, closer Tanner Scott is likely the next one to go. He's posted an excellent 1.93 ERA this season, with eight saves and 10 strikeouts per nine innings. Opponents are batting just .147 off him.

And while Scott might not win the Marlins a "blue-chip" prospect back in return, elite late-inning relievers are in high demand come the trade deadline as that's what teams look to load up on going into the playoffs.

With that, we look at four top contenders who at the top of the list for Scott's services, per insider Jon Heyman. And all of them are strong World Series favorites.

New York Yankees

Although they have Clay Holmes performing exceptionally well as the closer, they will be focusing on beefing up their bullpen significantly going forward.

Baltimore Orioles

They got another tough break for the starting rotation on Saturday, but the Orioles will still be looking to bring in a shutdown arm for the bullpen to add to Craig Kimbrel and Yennier Cano.

Philadelphia Phillies

Jose Alvarado and Jeff Hoffman give the Phils a pretty high-performing bullpen already, but imagine adding another big arm. Going three-deep at the back end of the 'pen is a playoff-winning recipe.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are already featuring a three-headed monster in their bullpen with Evan Phillips, Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen (who has yet to allow a run this year since returning six weeks ago). But when has a multitude of riches ever stopped this franchise from adding more?
