Blue Jays Rumors: 3 Third Base Targets Named for Toronto

With the recent cameo appearances of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at third base for the Toronto Blue Jays, some eyebrows were raised among observers of the team. Obviously, they're looking for more offense out of the position. The Jays, really, are looking for more offense, period.

Toronto is still wallowing around at two games under .500, leaving them 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. It's currently touch and go whether they'll be adding by July 30th.

With all that in mind, former MLB GM Jim Bowden has listed three third base targets for Toronto at the trade deadline next month—if they decide to be buyers.

Ryan McMahon

The longtime Colorado Rockies infielder is having the best year of his career by far. It's the first time he's had an OPS+ on the positive side of league average, at 122. With 12 home runs and a .350 on-base, his market value is at an all-time high. But in typical Rockies fashion, they're saying they don't want to sell. We'll see what happens six weeks from now. He also has the bonus of being a second baseman as well, another position that he could fill in at in Toronto.

Jeimer Candelario

After a slow start to the season with the Cincinnati Reds, he's picked it up of late, with 5 HR and a .955 OPS in the past two weeks. Overall, he's at 11 home runs with a 119 OPS+, and would be a nice boost at 3B for the Jays on offense.

Jake Burger

He's got power bursting at the seams, but it's been a difficult season for Burger with the Miami Marlins. He missed some time with injury, and was batting .199 as recently as two weeks ago. But he's picked it up a bit since then, hitting .308 in that recent span, though he's still sitting with just 6 homers on the season. Last year, however, he blasted 34 long balls with 80 RBIs.
