VIDEO: “Boo THAT!”: Ohtani’s 1st At-Bat in Toronto After Free Agency Mockery

Who couldn’t have predicted this? After a winter in which Shohei Ohtani‘s free agency sham broke the hearts of Toronto Blue Jays fans in the cruelest way possible, his first at-bat north of the border this season went pretty much just as you might have expected it would.

After a couple of pitches in which some heartfelt boos rained down on Ohtani from the Rogers Centre crowd, he merely crushed a Chris Bassitt offering deep into the right-field bullpen for his 7th home run of the season.

“Boo THAT” called out the Dodgers TV play-by-play man, as Ohtani rounded the bases while the Dodgers dugout celebrated with extra glee, and some even mockingly “booed” him as he made his way through the dugout.

And naturally, the first Dodgers teammate to greet him with big smiles and a high five as he entered the dugout was none other than Teoscar Hernandez, a longtime Blue Jay who was unceremoniously traded away before the 2023 season, leaving the Jays with a dearth of power that still exists to this day.

Ohtani was thought to be deciding between Toronto and LA as his free agent destination right down to the wire, stirring up the Toronto fan base into a frenzy for a couple of months, even including reports that he was on a plane to Toronto the night before he made his ultimate decision to choose the Dodgers.

And just like that, the two-way superstar went from being the King of Canada to seemingly public enemy #1.

In the end, ironically, the Jays wound up signing former Dodgers team leader Justin Turner, who helped lead them to their last World Series title in 2020, to be their DH.
