According to several sources, Merrifield is in agreement with the Philadelphia Phillies on a contract.
His performance, especially post-trade to the Blue Jays, where he managed to turn his batting around and secure a third All-Star nod, makes him a valuable asset.
Despite a second-half dip in performance, his overall season stats remained respectable, making him one of the top second basemen in the free agent market this offseason.

Last season, the 34-year-old posted a .272/.318/.382 triple-slash line, with 11 home runs, 67 RBIs, 26 stolen bases, and 66 runs scored across 145 games played.
The Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox had shown preliminary interest, with Merrifield's versatility and experience adding potential value to their line-ups, but now the Phillies have come out at the last second to snag the All-Star infielder.
