Trade News: Brewers, Royals Execute 3-Player Swap

Two small-market teams have been busy this offseason, and now the Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals have gotten together to make more news, by executing a trade.

The deal sees five-year veteran reliever Taylor Clarke heading to Milwaukee in return for minor league infielder Cam Devanney and right-handed reliever Ryan Brady.

Clarke, 30, began his career as a starting pitcher with the Arizona Diamondbacks after they selected him with a 3rd round pick in the MLB Draft in 2015. He transitioned into a full-time relief role in 2021. He has a career 5.09 ERA and 1.40 ERA. Not exactly mind-blowing numbers, but he does own a hard slider that held opponents to a .242 mark with a .198 expected batting average. We'll see how the Brewers work with his repertoire to take advantage of that.

For KC, the move allows them to clear a roster spot, and officially add Seth Lugo,  their free agent signing this week. Both minor leaguers they acquired were unranked in the Brewers system.
