Reds Discussing Trades With 3-4 Teams Over Former Rookie Of The Year

The Cincinnati Reds have been active in exploring trade possibilities for Jonathan India, their 2021 National League Rookie of the Year.

Discussions have been ongoing with three to four teams, although no deal is imminent.

India's performance, however, hasn't quite matched his rookie year's brilliance.

This past season, the 26-year-old slashed .244/.338/.407, with 17 home runs, 61 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, and 78 runs scored across 119 games played.

Defensively, he's been less impressive, playing exclusively at second base and designated hitter, with metrics suggesting he's a below-average defender.

This scenario of exploring trade options seems driven by the Reds' infield depth. Players like Matt McLain, Elly De La Cruz, Noelvi Marte, and Spencer Steer have shown their versatility and talent, putting pressure on India's position within the team.

Furthermore, India's trade value might not be as high as expected, considering his defensive struggles and diminished offensive production since his rookie season.

Entering his first arbitration season and controllable for another three years, India's contract status makes him an attractive trade prospect despite recent performance dips.

His age and potential upside remain selling points, but it seems unlikely that he will command a significant return, such as a major upgrade to the starting rotation. Photo Credit: Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports
