Top 3 Possible Landing Spots In A Tyler Glasnow Trade
With the recent rumors that the Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to trade ace starter Tyler Glasnow before his $25M salary kicks in for the 2024 season, teams will be scrambling to make offers for the flame-thrower.
He returned in 2023 for his first full season since Tommy John surgery in 2021, and posted a 3.53 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 K/9, not too far off his pre-surgery numbers.
Let's have a look at three teams that are surely to be in the bidding for the Rays' ace.
St. Louis Cardinals
With plenty of young burgeoning prospects, and a disaster of a starting rotation, the Cardinals are a prime candidate to make a run at Glasnow.
Team insider Derrick Goold has said "..if the Rays entertain discussions, the Cardinals will call. Or email. Or text. Or all three."
Some names that have cropped up as players that could be sent from St. Louis to Tampa include the likes of Juan Yepez, Tyler O'Neill, catching prospect Ivan Herrera, Alec Burleson, Matthew Liberatore and Tommy Edman. Not all, but some combination of those players could be offered.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Another team that suffered through rotation problems this season. This winter, they still don't know whether Clayton Kershaw will retire or come back for another year, Julio Urias is on the outs (both as a free agent, and for his off-field domestic violence issues), and Dustin May is out until mid-season 2024 at least.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubbies have been linked to having an interest in acquiring Glasnow dating all the way back to 2021. At that time, names like Craig Kimbrel and Kris Bryant were being tossed around at the trade deadline. Obviously, those guys are long gone, but the Cubs' farm system is ranked in the Top 5 in baseball, and they could likely put together an attractive package for the Rays.
Going into 2024, the team is looking for another top-of-the-rotation starter to go with Justin Steele.
