Top 3 Landing Spots for Free Agent Jordan Montgomery
Game Two of the World Series didn't quite go as Jordan Montgomery had hoped, but his performance since being dealt to the Texas Rangers at the deadline has nevertheless enhanced his upcoming free agency tremendously.
He posted a 2.79 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 58:14 BB/K ratio after going to the Lone Star State, and the lefty has also contributed a few stellar postseason performances this month as well.
The 30-year-old, who had an overall 3.20 ERA in 32 starts this season will be in high demand on the market this winter, leading us to have a look at three teams that should be front of the line in pursuing him.
St. Louis Cardinals
Make no mistake, the Cardinals didn't trade Montgomery away because they weren't happy with what he accomplished in his time in St. Louis. On the contrary, GM John Mozeliak has already said he has "not closed the door" on a reunion with the southpaw. The Cards are certainly in need of rotation help, and the 3.31 ERA that he provided the team in 32 total starts across two half-seasons is evidence that they could use him once again.
New York Yankees
Another team looking for additional help in the rotation this winter, and also a team that's very familiar with Montgomery. He spent 5½ seasons in the Bronx before they dealt him to St. Louis in 2022. He owns a 3.94 ERA in 97 starts as a Yankee, but his performance over the past year and a half since they traded him has elevated him to a new level.
New York Mets
The Mets will be looking to add two or three starters this winter, and with Montgomery not being attached to draft pick compensation, he becomes even more attractive to the team. As noted by SNY's Danny Abriano, the lefty is very "appealing" to the Mets.
