Top 3 Free Agent Landing Spots For Blake Snell
Blake Snell picked a pretty good time to get back to his Cy Young form. He heads into free agency riding an incredible run that saw him post a 1.20 ERA in his last 23 starts for the San Diego Padres. He hadn't looked dominant like that since his Cy Young year with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.
"If you're a team with a need at the top of the rotation, which is pretty much every team, Blake Snell looks pretty good right now," notes MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal. He elaborated by naming three teams that should be at the top of the Snell suitors list in free agency.
St. Louis Cardinals
A team that's rife with openings on their pitching staff after a disastrous season, the Cards should be top of the list here. "They need multiple starting pitchers," says Rosenthal.
The Cardinals finished 24th in team ERA in 2023, and have a very thin starting staff going into the offseason after trading away Jack Flaherty and Jordan Montgomery, and watching Adam Wainwright retire.
Los Angeles Dodgers
President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman knows all about Snell, as he was responsible for drafting the pitcher in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft when he was with Tampa Bay.
And with Clayton Kershaw's future up in the air, and free agent Julio Urias definitely not returning, they certainly need to shore up their rotation with a marquee arm. And we know that the Dodgers don't shy away from any free agent, no matter the price.
Boston Red Sox
The BoSox have quite a few needs to get back to contender status, but a top of the rotation arm is certainly one of them. And Snell, of course, has a history of great success in the AL East, despite it being a beast of a division.
