Thompson's prior seasons from 2020 to 2022 showcased promising statistics, including a solid strikeout rate, strong ground ball rate, and low walk rate.
Over his four-year career in the majors, Thompson holds a 3.88 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, with 111 strikeouts across 120.2 innings and 126 appearances.
Although the current year presented difficulties, his recent outings in Triple-A demonstrated glimpses of potential, albeit with some concerns about his walk rate.

Thompson, 31, was released by the Rays earlier this week. He had a 6.11 ERA in 18 appearances (17.2 IP, 14 H, 12 ER, 7 BB, 12 K) this year.
He had a 3.80 ERA in '22 and 2.38 ERA in '21 out of the Rays 'pen.
As Thompson joins the Arizona Diamondbacks, his track record offers a chance for a fresh start, and his remaining arbitration eligibility could serve as a platform for continued development.
The decision to sign Thompson reflects the Diamondbacks' recognition of his capability as a reliable relief pitcher, despite recent setbacks.
