Miami Marlins Acquire Left-Handed Pitcher From Padres

The Miami Marlins recently made a move to bolster their bullpen, acquiring left-handed reliever Jose Castillo from the San Diego Padres in exchange for cash considerations.

Castillo, who displayed promise during his debut season with the Padres in 2018, has faced setbacks in subsequent years due to injuries, including a torn ligament in 2019 and Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for most of the 2021-22 seasons.

Despite a solid performance in the minors last year, his Triple-A outings in 2023 have been challenging.

This trade represents a significant opportunity for Castillo to prove himself in the majors, as he is currently in his final minor league option season and needs to showcase his talent to secure a spot on the Marlins' 40-man roster and avoid potential non-tendering in the offseason.

For his major-league career, he owns a 4.24 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, with 55 strikeouts across 40.1 innings and 40 appearances.
