Los Angeles Angels & Chicago White Sox Complete Trade
The Los Angeles Angels have acquired Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for prospects Edgar Quero and Ky Bush.
For much of the weeks leading up to the deadline, the Angels have been viewed as potential sellers, specifically with generational talent Shohei Ohtani being their biggest trade candidate. Yet, the Angels officially took him off of the trade block yesterday (July 26). Now, with this Giolito/Lopez trade, they are making it clear that they are buyers.
Giolito was one of the top pitchers available for trade, and the Angels are the lucky club to land him. In 21 appearances this season, he has a 6-6 record to go along with 3.79 ERA. Lopez, on the other hand, has a 2--5 record to go along with a 4.29 ERA in 43 relief appearances.
It is going to be intriguing to see how well this move works out for both teams. The Angels will be hoping that it is the boost they need to catch up to their AL West rivals and AL Wild Card opponents.
