Arizona Diamondbacks Get Bad News On Front Line Starting Pitcher
The Arizona Diamondbacks start to the 2023 MLB season has been nothing short of extraordinary as they lead a stacked NL West division as we inch towards the All-Star break, but on Tuesday, they revealed some bad news about one of their top line starters.
Unfortunately, Merrill Kelly has officially been placed on the Injured list with calf inflammation, and while they've got plenty of arms to cover him, if this does become a more serious injury, they would be rocked by losing him for any stretch of time.
In 16 starts this. year, Kelly has put together a 9-4 record with a 3.22 ERA over 95 innings of work, striking out a solid 98 hitters, and while this rotation still has Zac Gallen to lead the way, D-Backs fans will have their fingers crossed that Kelly can get back to the mound in no time. The #Dbacks recalled RHPs Kevin Ginkel and Justin Martinez from Triple-A Reno, placed RHP Merrill Kelly on the 15-day injured list (right calf inflammation, retroactive June 25), and optioned LHP Joe Mantiply to Reno following Sunday's game.
