Washington Nationals Sign Free Agent Catcher

The Washington Nationals have signed catcher Luis Torrens to a minor league contract, solidifying their roster depth behind the plate.

Torrens, who recently became a free agent after declining a minor league assignment with the Baltimore Orioles, will now join the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings.

The 27-year-old catcher had a brief stint with the Chicago Cubs earlier this season, appearing in 13 major league games and recording a batting average of .250/.318/.300.

He was subsequently traded to the Orioles in early May before finding a new home with the Nationals.

Throughout his career in the majors, Torrens has maintained a batting average of .227/.289/.352. This signing provides the Nationals with additional catching options and adds experience to their Triple-A roster. Photo Credit: Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports
