Chicago Cubs Call Up Power Hitting First Base Prospect
The Chicago Cubs have fallen under .500 once again after a promising start to the 2023 season, and with their offensive struggles (scoring just five runs in their past three games), and now it looks like they're making a big change to the lineup.
After their 4-3 loss to the Washington Nationals on Thursday, the Cubs are officially calling up top first-base prospect Matt Mervis to the MLB, and is expected to join the team on Friday ahead of a series against the Marlins, with his MLB likely awaiting him.
In 24 games this year, he's hitting .286 with six HR in AAA, and over his time in the minor leagues, with a .305 average and 41 HR over 161 games across three minor league levels dating back to the start of 2022, so it's safe to say this could be the injection of power that they need. The Chicago Cubs are calling up top first base prospect Matt Mervis, sources tell ESPN. He's expected to join the team tomorrow as it returns home to start a series against Miami. Mervis, 25, was hitting .286/.402/.560 with six HR in 24 games at Triple-A Iowa. Big power prospect.
