Baltimore Orioles Place Pitcher On Waivers After Career-Best Season
The Baltimore Orioles have designated right-handed relief pitcher Joey Krehbiel for assignment.
The move was made to clear a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Luis Torrens, who was acquired from the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations.
Despite posting a career-best 3.90 ERA over 56 appearances and 57.2 innings pitched for the Orioles in 2022, Krehbiel did not make the Opening Day roster for the 2023 season.
I liked Joey Krehbiel a lot. He made a lasting impression on the Orioles bullpen last year and was great with the fans. I wish him the best in the future! #Birdland #Orioles

Instead, the 30-year-old spent the entirety of the current season playing for the Triple-A team Norfolk, where he recorded a strong 2.00 ERA over nine innings pitched.
Krehbiel's designation for assignment may present an opportunity for other teams seeking bullpen support to claim him off waivers or through a potential trade.
While it remains to be seen whether he will be picked up by another team, Krehbiel's previous performance in the major leagues suggests that he could be a valuable asset for a team in need of relief pitching.
In total, over his three-year career, Krehbiel holds a 3.78 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, with 52 strikeouts across 69 innings and 64 appearances.
