Atlanta Braves Claim Veteran Pitcher
The Atlanta Braves have started the 2023 MLB season quite well, with a 25-15 record through 40 games, but lately, they've been hit hard by injury, with both Kyle Wright and Max Fried expected to be out for several months.
In order to combat some of the depth issues in their rotation arising from these injuries, the Braves have today claimed veteran right hander Dereck Rodriguez, formerly of the San Francisco Giants and Minnesota Twins, and while he will head to Triple-A to begin his Braves career, he will likely be needed in the big leagues very soon.
In 35 starts as a big leaguer, the 30-year old has compiled a 12-16 record with a 4.27 ERA, and while he's lacked consistent, winning pitching, he has shown that he's capable of contributing to an MLB roster, which is what the Braves will be hoping for.The #Braves today claimed RHP Dereck Rodríguez off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred RHP Kyle Wright to the 60-day injured list.
