Another Seattle Mariners Starter Headed For Tommy John Surgery
After what looked like an exciting add to the Seattle Mariners' rotation, the 2023 season has come crashing down for impressive 25-year-old right-hander Easton McGee.
Easton McGee is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery with Dr. Keith Meister performing the procedure. While McGee went on the IL with a flexor strain, the cause is instability in the UCL.

McGee was acquired by the M's from the Boston Red Sox in the offseason, and made one terrific start in his debut for Seattle, shutting down the Toronto Blue Jays' offense on one hit over 6.2 shutout innings.
But then the trouble began.
McGee was placed on the injured list the next day with a flexor strain and hasn't pitched since then. Now, "instability in the UCL" will force him to undergo the dreaded Tommy John surgery, wiping out the rest of his 2023 season, and probably at least half—if not more—of 2024.
The irony is that McGee had been called up by the Mariners to replace Robbie Ray, the M's ace who himself had to go under the knife for Tommy John last month.
It's a terrible break for the young pitcher, who will hopefully be able to come back strong in later 2024.
